Express Setup for Insulin Therapy Analysis

(Try this as a "fast setup" for those who don't want to read all of the instructions.)

1. Enter your food and insulin. Ignore the warnings that you might get during setup (only). (Clicking on "Treat Insulin as Continuous Regime" reduces the warnings.) Warnings apply after initial setup.

2. Set the "Constants" to 14, 40, yes/no (choose), & 5.

3. Click on "Graphs". Note what the lowest predicted blood sugar of the day is. Then use the "Set Baseline" button to raise the graph until the lowest predicted value of the day matches what you see as your real life lowest value, for example, 40.

4. Now check the highest predicted value blood sugar of the day. Compare this to your real life high. (For example, 350). Ignore "when" it occurs. If predicted high on the graph is too high, increase the bolus amount (in "Constants") by 1, for example, from 5 to 6.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you achieve agreement in lows and highs.

6. Click on "Save" to save the results.

This should complete the setup. The Insulin graph shows how the insulin is available in the blood stream, the Carbohydrates graph shows how the carbs are available in the blood stream, and the Blood Sugar Prediction graph shows the blood glucose results.

Remember, match your lowest lows and highest highs, not just typical low and typical high values. You don't see your most extreme highs very often in testing.

Installing the Diskettes

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM compatible PC (486 and above is recommended) running Windows (any version), 5MB of hard disk space. (A 386 works but is a little slow.) Any computer running Windows has enough internal RAM memory to run these programs. (Macintosh emulators such as SoftWindows can run this program also, with the same requirements and procedures.)

TO INSTALL: follow the instructions below. To reinstall or upgrade, follow the same instructions. Do not delete the old files or deinstall before reinstalling from the diskettes. You will be warned before any existing data files are overwritten and you will be offered a chance to skip over any such destructive overwrites of data files.

TO INSTALL THE DISKETTES:

1. Place the disk into the disk drive

2. In the File Menu click "Run". (Win95 users use START)

3. Type a:\setup (or b:\setup) and press Enter (or click the OK button).

4.. To answer: "Install Disk 1?", click "yes".

5. You will be prompted to either accept the default directory (C:\INSULIN2) or enter the drive and directory name you prefer. We suggest that you click "OK".

6. The program will count down as files are installed. You will be prompted to insert disks 2, 3, and 4 . All disks must be installed as the programs share resources.

7. At the end of installation the program will display "OK" to the screen and end.

8. The installation will create a Program Manager Group and place the program icons.

9. To launch a program, simply double-click on the Program's icon (Win95 uses START and a single click.)

To proceed click on the button indicating that you accept the conditions for use of the program. Read the disclaimers.

COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS

Complete instructions for all programs are included on the diskettes as digital manuals.

These manuals are installed onto your PC during installation. To see the manuals, double click the icon "Works User Manuals" (in the Insulin Therapy Group).

3

Then click on the button for the instruction set you wish to see. You may print any manual using "print" under the File menu.

We suggest that you print the complete instructions for "Insulin Therapy Analysis". These instructions contain 28 pages of printed material that contain button-by-button instructions.

KEYBOARD COMMANDS

It you are not using a mouse the program will operate like other standard WINDOWS applications. The TAB key will tab you through the buttons, making each a hotkey. The button will be outlined lightly in black when selected by the tab key. Pressing the ENTER key will register a button push.

In addition, alt-key access can click a button. Each button has a letter of its caption underlined indicating that this letter is the Alt-key that will click the key. While holding down the ALT key, press the letter that is underlined and the button will be clicked.
